'Switched-On' TSOs Thwart Theft at Checkpoint

Security officers at Anchorage (Alaska) International Airport reunited a passenger with his stolen iPod music player after helping successfully identify alleged thieves.

Transportation Security Officer Debbie Wilson and Master TSO Katharine McQuillin recalled two passengers who may have taken the item from the composure table, and the name of a child who was traveling with them. Transportation Security Manager Tim Wynn reviewed closed circuit TV of the checkpoint to confirm the suspected theft.

Authorities in Seattle, where the passengers were scheduled to arrive, were notified. After police advised the passengers of the video proof, they confessed to stealing the iPod. The case has been forwarded to the District Attorney's Office in Alaska.

Anchorage Federal Security Director Corky Caldwell praised the security officers for their "active engagement" and said close cooperation between Cameron Porter, the assistant federal security director-law enforcement, airport law enforcement and airline employees was key to catching the alleged thieves.
